How to be saved
You must be born again!
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (John 3:3)
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (John 3:6)
You were born into your physical family through a physical birth, that is, you were born of the flesh. God is Spirit, and because of your sin you are spiritually dead and must be “quickened” that is to be made alive spiritually.
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; (Col 2:13-14)
And you [hath he quickened], who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) (Eph 2:1-5)
In the verse below in the book of Acts, Paul is instructed in his work with the gentiles by Jesus. Note the progression of instruction.
To open their eyes, [and] to turn [them] from darkness to light, and [from] the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. (Acts 26:18)
1. To open their eyes. Recognition
2. To turn them. Repentance
3. That they may receive. Receive
